Xiaoheng Wang and Wangxi Hai are conducting their trainings with the California Public Health Department from March 15, 2010 to September 15, 2010. They are preparing to attend the University of California Berkeley summer session classes; in the mean time they are actively participating meetings/conferences, workshops and seminars either on the Public Health Department Richmond campus where they have their work stations, or on other locations inside/outside of California. On May 12-15, 2010, Xiaoheng and Wangxi will attend the annual WREN (Western Region Epidemiology Network) conference in Ashland, Oregon and on June 6-10 they will attend the CSTE (the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists Annual Conference) in Portland, Oregon.
Like the previous trainees, Xiaoheng and Wangxi study the CDC epidemiology cases with Dr. Daniel Smith. So far they have studied influenza A (H5N1) in Humans: Surveillance System Enhancement'; 'Vinyl Chloride and Cancer'; they plan to go through all our seven CDC epidemiology cases during the 6 months training.
Dr. Rick Kreutzer and Lixia Zhang meet with our trainees weekly to discuss the training activities, check on their progresses, help with their summary activity reports and technical paper writing. Dr. Kreutzer also gives the trainees lectures on the US government, the California State government, the legislative processes, and the budget process.
