  • Taking classes at School of Public Health, University of California at Berkeley.  Below are the courses they are currently taking:

          Public Health 253A--Topics in Public Health Surveillance

          Public Health 252B--Disaster Epidemiology

          Public Health 298--Introduction to Public Health Emergency Preparedness

  • Case Study with Daniel Smith:  Dr. Smith is working with our trainees on CDC case studies such as 'Injury Surveillance'; 'Cigarette Smoking and Lung Cancer'; 'An Outbreak of a Neurological Syndrome Among Factory Workers'; etc.  He also teaches trainees statistical analysis and related software applications.

     

                           

     

  • Dr. Rick Kreutzer meets with Xiaodong, Liang and Lixia regularly to discuss the trainees' activities, check on their

    progresses, help with their technical paper writing.  Dr. Kreutzer also gives the trainees lectures on the US government, the California State government, the legislative process, the budget process etc.

     

  • Attend presentations, seminars and meetings on the DHS Richmond campus, Sacramento campus, and the UC Berkeley Campus. 

     

  • English Classes:  Our co-worker Joseph Perrin volunteered to have English conversation with Xiaodong and Liang during lunch time to help them with their English speaking.  Also, on Sundays Xiaodong and Liang go to the Berkeley First Presbyterian Church to attend the English/Culture class.  They enjoy learning both English and the American cultures very much.

                                       

  • Culture Exchange Activities 

So far, Xiaodong and Liang have visited the city of San Francisco including China Town, Civic Center, Union Square, The Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts, etc; University of California Berkeley Campus; Tilden Regional Park; Muir Woods; Monterey Bay; Sacramento; Napa Valley; Cross Country Ski in Royal Gorge; San Bernardino; Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe.  They also attended the CDC 56th annual EIS epidemiology conference in Atlanta, after the conference they visited Washington D.C. and New York.  Their last trip was Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon.  You can find many fun pictures from our web page - Current Trainees' Events Photos.
